Mivos Quartet
The Mivos Quartet is devoted to performing works of contemporary composers and presenting diverse new music to international audiences. The quartet, founded in 2008, commissions and premieres new repertoire for string quartet, and is dedicated to creative collaborations with a wide variety of artists. Mivos maintains an active international performance schedule, with regular appearances as ensemble-in-residence at summer festivals. Mivos takes part in many educational residencies at universities and summer festivals, working with young performers and composers to develop their craft, technical skis and artistic expression. The quartet also runs two composition prizes to help discover and promote emerging composers in the US and abroad. Beyond these activities, Mivos collaborates regularly with guest artists, presents multimedia projects, and performs improvised music. www.mivosquartet.com

Formed based on Olivier Messiaen’s seminal Quartet for the End of Time, The Anzû Quartet is comprised of musicians from Bang on a Can, Mivos Quartet, Eighth Blackbird, and Bearthoven. The group is dedicated to commissioning and premiering new works of unique instrumentation.
After touring US and Europe, with Anna Webber’s Adjust, the Anzû Quartet will make an NYC premiere of works by Ryan Carter, Mario Diaz de Leon, and Anna Webber.
One of the first major pieces Webber has composed for an ensemble, Adjust tackles the meeting of the composed and improvised music worlds in a thrilling five-part work.
Diaz de Leon’s Tree of Life is an ecotheologically motivated response to the Quatuor pour la fin du temps inspired by Rev 22:1-2.
Ryan Carter’s Frictionless Objects incorporates wild extended techniques and expanded tonality in an emotive ten-minute work.

Wednesday, May 21, 2025 7:30 PM Zankel Hall
Cécile McLorin Salvant’s most daring and multifaceted creation yet, Ogresse is a musical and theatrical tour-de-force by an incomparable artist. It is a haunting, wryly humorous, and “staggeringly original” (The Wall Street Journal) work that blends jazz, chamber music, opera, art song, and many generations of storytelling traditions into a whole that feels at once ancient and cutting edge. Featuring Salvant’s original libretto, costumes of her own design, visual projections, and an ensemble led by Darcy James Argue, this is a true passion project that continues to evolve with each performance. Take advantage of the opportunity to experience it in the dynamic Zankel Hall.
